About our Wool Flame Barrier: We use Natural Joma Wool from New Zealand. Our wool meets the Standard for Flammability of Mattress Sets 16 CFR 1633 WITHOUT the use of toxic chemicals! We have selected Natural Joma Wool over the other types of wool available due to the fact that it is steam treated and not chemically treated. Our Joma wool is also better for the application in mattresses then other forms of wool due to the fact that it is denser and made to handle a heavier load than other forms of wool. With all the awesome benefits of our Joma wool comes the fact that it is a natural, non-chemically treated product, which may have a natural odor when it is brand new. As the wool isn’t chemically treated to strip it of its natural components, lanolin, which is naturally occurring in the wool can cause an odor that may be more pronounced during the humid months of the year. Any smell that may be present in your new mattress will dissipate quickly and not come back. Airing or sunning the mattress will help if you are sensitive to the smell of new wool.
